REVIEW: GALAXY JUICE - PANTAGONIA

Updated: Oct 7, 2019

Kuwaiti psychedelic indie outfit returns with a solid 5-track EP

Galaxy Juice has to be one of the most promising bands to emerge in the region in recent years. The Kuwaiti outfit has already produced two full-length albums, including the phenomenal Timenesia three years ago.

With this 5-track EP, Galaxy Juice carry on doing what they do best, create mesmerizing sonic journeys that bring together the better parts of psychedelic rock and electronica, with the latter part shining through more prominently here that in previous releases.

Hopefully, Galaxy Juice can set the standard for more local bands to push their creative output and offering something a little different.

This is clearly felt in Live in a World, which hardly features any guitars, but manages to sustain your interest through a melodic synth and deep beats throughout. The band don’t seem content with following the same formula throughout the record. Someday and Dream Another Dream are more contemplative and sparse, while in Surrender the band seem to let loose of their creative spirit.

But it’s the title-track Pantagonia that truly encapsulates with Galaxy Juice is all about, bombastic, beat-filled psychedelic jam that seems designed to get people swaying in a trance. Pantagonia has to be one of the best records to come out of the region in 2019. Hopefully, Galaxy Juice can set the standard for more local bands to push their creative output and offering something a little different.

I'm a believer in Galaxy Juice's ability to hold the scene to a higher standard. Their percussion in particular is very compelling to me. Their sound marries synth-based music and more analog instruments so well. That's what I get in your comment that they 'create mesmerizing sonic journeys bringing together the better parts of psychedelic rock and electronica.' More power to this crew!
